About the club

We're KSU's home for radio.

W4KST is the official amateur radio club of Kennesaw State University. Founded in 1949 as the STI Radio Club, we bring together students, faculty, alumni, and local operators around a shared curiosity for how radio works — and a love of getting on the air.

Our mission

We bring a younger voice to the amateur radio community. We discuss and build projects around radio and related technologies — circuits, antennas, and more — maintain and operate the campus amateur radio equipment, and work with public safety on amateur radio for emergencies. It's real-world experience that puts the skills from your classes to use.

Best of all, the club is run on what members want to do. Whatever corner of radio excites you, there's room to chase it here.

The call sign W4KST is the club's federally assigned identity. The "W4" prefix marks us as a station in the southeastern United States, and operating under the club call is part of what makes being a member special.

What you get as a member

  • Hands-on time with the campus radio station & equipment
  • Project work in radio & electronics (circuits and beyond)

  • A welcoming community on and off the air
Who can join

Everyone is welcome

You do not need a license, a radio, or any prior experience to get involved. Come as you are and we'll take it from there.

Students

Any KSU student — any major, any year. Radio pairs surprisingly well with engineering, CS, aviation, and emergency-management programs, but all majors are welcome.

Faculty & alumni

Faculty, staff, and KSU alumni are part of the family. Licensed operators bring experience; everyone brings enthusiasm.

The curious public

Not affiliated with KSU but interested in ham radio? You're still welcome to study with us and join the conversation on Discord.

Meetings

When & where we meet

Meeting times and locations are coordinated each semester. The fastest way to find out when we're gathering next — and to get directions on campus — is to join our Discord, where the schedule, announcements, and last-minute changes are posted.

New here? Just show up and say hi. Meetings are casual, and there's always someone happy to walk you through the basics.
